1872 is a grand Victorian era double fronted bluestone mansion on a very large lot located in regional Victoria.

The existing dwelling has been restored, with the addition of living and entertaining pavilions that have enhanced and highlighted the original architecture.
Having large glazed areas, the new pavilions explore the latest in environmentally sensitive design technology.

Basalt was sourced throughout regional Victoria to seamlessly sit with the existing bluestone, much of which was quarried on site.

Numerous long standing techniques were employed by specialist stonemasons to achieve finishes identical to those on the existing heritage listed residence, or compliment it through contemporary solutions.

Bluestone blocks were carved to create a new archway which defines the extended central entrance hall, punching through the existing rear wall of the property. Great care has been taken to recreate the rough-cut faces and unique chiseled corners of the original stonework where newly sourced basalt has been used.

This technique was used throughout 1872, particularly within the library, on the newly crafted fireplace mantel and chimney breast and entrance to the dining and kitchen pavilion.

The large garden has been transformed into a beautiful setting for the original and new works.

Landscaping at the beginning of construction has allowed the extensive gardens to properly establish prior to the residence being completed.
